we continue to follow the latest with the deadly crash landing at s-f-o that happened over the weekend. we are learning critical new details about what may have caused saturday's deadly plane crash at s-f-o. the n-t-s-b interviewed all four pilots who were on the plane. 3 of those pilots were actually in the cockpit at the time of crash.. kron 4's charles clifford reports. according to the ntsb, the pilot controlling asiana flight 214 was making his first landing attempt in a boeing 777 at s-f-o. he was controlling the plane from the left hand seat in the cockpit. the training pilot, who was assisting with the landing, was in the right hand seat, there was also a relief first officer in the cockpit jump seat and a fourth pilot seated in the plane's cabin. according to the ntsb, the training pilot says that as the plane descended towards runway 2-8 left, the crew set the planes auto throttle to the required airspeed. >> he set the auto throttle at 137 knots and he assumed that the auto throttles were maintaining speed. but moments later, the pilots realized that the plane was to low and travelling to slow. they attempted to correct

the problem by throttling up but by then it was to late. the landing gear and tail of the plane struck the seawall, the aircraft broke apart and skidded down the runway. ntsb chairman deborah hersman says that investigators will analyze the planes flight data recorder and voice recorder to determine if there was a problem with the auto throttle. their initial inspection of the wreckage shows that the auto throttle was armed, but that doesn't mean it was malfunctioning. one of the critical things that needs to monitored on the approach to landing is speed...so we need to understand what was going on in the cockpit and also what was going on with the aircraft. none of the flight crew have been drug or alcohol tested because the u.s. doesn't require such testing for foreign based crews, such testing is deferred to the country in which the airline is based. in this case, south korea. in the newsroom, charles clifford kron 4 news. the surviving passengers from saturday's crash. are staying in a bay area hotel. some of them left the crowne plaza hotel in burlingame but hotel staff went out of their way to make sure they all had some privacy. staff members opened umbrellas to block anyone from seeing the victims faces as they walked through the doors. security was also on high alert. police manned the

entrancestopping and checking every car that tried to enter. one foundation similar to the red cross went to the hotel to try to give some assistance to the victims, but they were unsuccessful due to the tight security. the surviving pasers from saturday's crash. are staying in a bay area hotel. some of them did some shopping today, and the staff at the crowne plaza hotel in burlingame. went out of their way to make sure they all had some privacy. kron 4's alecia reid shows passengers left the hotel for the day on this tour bus, and once back in the parking lot staff opened umbrellas to block anyone from seeing the victims faces as they walked through the doors. security was also on high alert. police manned the entrancestopping and checking every car that tried to enter. these women from the buddhist tzu chi foundation were on foot but still couldn't get very far. they tell us they're similar to the red cross in that they help people in need. they've received a lot of calls about the victims so they showed up to see if they could be of any assistance. although they can't get inside the hotel, those women tell me they plan to hold a candle light vigil for the victims near the

the fact that when she knocked on the door and asked the pilot whether they should start evacuating, he said no. that is what observers find so interesting, experts say they cannot imagine why the pilot would delay evacuations -- even lee also described how at least one of the evacuation slides inflated inward -- pinning another flight attendant inside the plane. the pictures of what remains of the aircraft, remind us just how lucky most of the flight 214 had 307 people on board. two of them died. more than 180 others were taken to various hospitals, most of them to san francisisco general and of those, 49 suffered

democratically elected the country's armed forces say they're stabilizing earlier this week dozens of battles between the military and the muslim brotherhood. the white house, meanwhile, is keeping a close eye on the matter. that's the message press secretary jay carney delivered today. the egyptian military has issued a statement saying destruction of property will not to be tolerated. an interim president has been put in place but the muslim brotherhood says it will not recognize that official's authority or negotiate until morsy is back in power. >>james: we will update you on a problem on the road to

this early morning. >>darya: good morning. people have been riding in to me saying they have been caught in this back up early this morning east bound 80. this was a big rig accident that involved in oil spill. the big rig has been long cleared from the lanes however the oil spill has been remaining. the chp sent out another update saying that this should be wrapped up in the next 10 to 15 minutes but kron4 is on the scene. most of the scenes are checked out and they did manage to open up 1 and 2 lanes 3 it traffic very slowly making it past the scene of this accident. this is in the process of wrapping up. we will continue to monitor this. hopefully this wraps up in the next 10 to 15 minutes. i do however want to take a look at traffic around the rest of the bay area so if you are not headed in the

eastbound direction westborough 80 are in no way to or backups. all clear here at the toll plaza. san mateo bridge ride looking pretty good. no issues and the westbound direction. south bound 101 at the golden gate bridge, a little bit of falk, a little bit of haze of the other than that, no incidents to report. aside from that hotspot, traffic around the bay area looking pretty good. i do want to focus attention on air wednesday forecast. here's a live look from our roof cam overlooking the san francisco skyline. we do have some areas of drizzle so you may have to use your windshield wipers as you head out to work or school. in terms of what satellite and radar perspective is showing, you can see marine layer very much intact. not only impacting coastal communities but into the bay shores and even impacting some of the inland communities today. their

current conditions in terms of temperatures today, and about zero very chilly start at 48 degrees, 68 and antioch, upper 50s down the east bay shoreline. or tracking the temperatures throughout the day. by lunch time you will see mainly '60s coastline, seven is inside the bay and eighties for the warmest inland spots. the red indicating '90s will just border the bay area so you may see a few ninety's predominately in the east bay. by 8:00 p.m. tonight, you will notice an increase in cloud cover and temperatures mainly in the 60s and low 70's. as we take a closer look into afternoon highs in your neighborhood, you will notice a few lingering '90s for livermore pleasanton, 87 degrees year high in concord and upper 60s in downtown san francisco. your 7 day around the bay forecast shows minor subtle day-to-day changes. morning fog with after the sunshine. temperatures in the '90s a once again by the latter half of the weekend. anny

clear just how easy it would be for him to travel to south america from moscow. the bolivian president -- along with the leaders of venezuela and nicaragua -- have said snowden is welcome in their countries. snowden was on his plane. >>james:canadian authorities have now opened a criminal investigation into a deadly oil train derailment that killed at least 15 people over the weekend. dozens more are still missing tonight after 72 tanker cars carrying crude oil jumped the track saturday setting off a huge fireball in canada. officials now say they have a handle on the fire. they will now allow many of the people evacuated from their homes to return but say about 800 people will still have to stay away. quebec police said yesterday that investigators have "discovered elements" that have led to a criminal probe. offficials did not give details but did rule out terrorism. coming up on the kron four morning news.
